The rainy season is from December to March, the use of sweaters, coats, raincoats or umbrellas recomeinda. Cajamarca department capital of the same name, the capital of Carnival in Peru. This region is an important agricultural area in the Peruvian economy, due to its predominant activity is based on agriculture and livestock; because of its rich pastures and fertility of its soil. Among its main resource we have: corn, wheat, coffee, barley, cocoa, potatoes, root vegetables, cattle, sheep and goats. Small businesses consist of the processing of milk and dairy products: blancmange, butter, cheese, yogurt, etc. In addition, this region is one of the most important mineral deposits in Peru, its soil copper, silver, zinc, lead and coal are extracted.

Cajamarca was one of the first cities to be inhabited by the Spanish. On 16 November 1,532, the current square was the scene where two cultural powers met: the Andes and the western, when the Inca Atahualpa was taken prisoner by a group of Spaniards led by Francisco Pizarro, who in Inca offered them a room full of gold and two rooms full of silver as payment for his redemption. Months later the Inca was sentenced to death by garrote.


Due to its historical, archaeological and beauty of its landscape significance, February 14, 1986, the Organization of American States declared as "Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Americas".


In this region there are important historical monuments such as the channel Cumbemayo, the windows of Otuzco, the fourth rescue, church, museum and crypt of San Francisco, Bethlehem church, St. Peter's Church and St. George, the Cathedral of Cajamarca, and Peru's largest forest park: Porcón farm.






»» Getting to Cajamarca

Highway: Main access from Lima to Cajamarca, approximately 850 km bus trip through the North Pan-American Highway. The trip takes about 18 hours.
In this city there is no land terminal, however most transport companies are located in the blocks 2 and 3 Av. Atahualpa and independence.

By Air: There are commercial flights from Lima to Cajamarca, using 1 hour and 10 minutes approximately. Airline Lan Peru, Star Peru, Peru and Luke offer daily flights from Lima to Cajamarca.


Air terminal Mayor General FAP. Armando Revoredo is located 3.5 km from the city.
